First Week of New Dauphin ER 

Dauphin’s new temporary ER is up and running as restoration continues in other parts of the hospital. The word from local physicians? So far, so good. 

• Local physicians, with support from Doctors Manitoba, had been pushing for a temporary ER to open in Dauphin, which typically saw 40 – 50 patients per day. 

• The Premier directed the ER to be reopened by Labour Day, saying at the time he was simply following doctors’ orders. 

• Ultrasound is now available too, with a mobile CT is expected soon in Dauphin. 

Many services remain unavailable.

Mentors Needed

With another large medical class, we need more mentors for our Mentorship Program! We are recruiting residents and practicing physicians to serve as mentors, and you are invited to take part! Mentors receive ongoing support from Doctors Manitoba, including access to mentorship events, leadership development sessions and networking opportunities. No previous mentoring experience is required. Plus, being a mentor is a rewarding experience, and it helps with retaining learners in Manitoba.

Apply for the Provincial Advisory Circle 

Shared Health is putting together a diverse and representative group of voices to serve on the Provincial Advisory Circle (PAC), addressing systemic racism and discrimination within the health care system. The PAC strengthens accountability by reviewing information related to systemic racism and discrimination, identifying themes and patterns with broader organizational impact. The PAC also recommends equitable remedies and supports follow-up actions.

New Stroke Care Resource 

Shared Health has launched a new Stroke Care website to support both clinicians and patients. The site brings together information on stroke services, resources and supports. 

Sing with the Hippocratic High Notes Choir 

Hippocratic High Notes is a no-audition community choir for women physicians, including those in practice, retired, residents, and medical students. The focus? Low stress, high fun. 

This season:

• Fall rehearsals: Sept. 15 to Dec. 8, Mondays, 7 to 8:15 p.m.

• Winter concert: Dec. 12 at 3 p.m.

• Spring rehearsals: Jan. 12 to May 25, Mondays, 7 to 8:15 p.m.

• Spring concert: May 30 at 3 p.m.

• Choir wind-up: June 1
