Billing Corner: Responsible Billing
Last week we brought you our Back –to-School Billing Refresher, with an updated set of articles to help ensure your claims align with the Physician’s Manual. Manitoba Health is paying closer attention to claims in several areas.
This week, we’re highlighting Billing Responsibility and Accuracy. Think of it like an accountant doing your taxes: you may rely on an expert to prepare and submit them, but you’re ultimately responsible if something is wrong. Fee-for-service billing works much the same way.
➡️You can delegate billing to staff, a clinic, or a billing company, but responsibility stays with the physician whose billing number is used. That means claims must:
- Accurately reflect the care provided
- Be supported by the medical record
- Follow Manitoba’s billing rules.
The takeaway: Don’t rely solely on word-of-mouth advice. When in doubt, check the Physician’s Manual or seek appropriate guidance before submitting a claim.

Manitoba Expands ER Medicine Training
The Manitoba government has expanded emergency medicine-focused residency training at the University of Manitoba, increasing the number of annual training seats to 17 from 11, to help build a stronger pipeline of emergency physicians for communities across the province.
🩺 The big picture: The expanded training opportunities represent a strong step toward better physician coverage in our ERs in the long term.
