Tomorrow is National Physicians’ Day, a time to celebrate doctors and express gratitude for the care you provide to Manitobans every day.

So, all of us at Doctors Manitoba want to be the first to say thank you!

At Doctors Manitoba, we strive each day to strengthen and support every physician, advocating for the resources you need to thrive and deliver exceptional care,” explained CEO Theresa Oswald.

This year, we are marking National Physicians’ Day in a few ways:

  • Watch our social media for messages of gratitude from patients and colleagues. Send us a direct message and we will report it!
  • Celebrating this year’s Doctors Manitoba Award winners at our annual Gala on Friday evening. Read more about the winners here. While the Gala is sold out, our members can still attend the gala afterparty – learn more and register here.
  • Pushing for improvements in your practice, including less paperwork, more team-based care, and stronger consultation and engagement from the health care system.

National Physicians’ Day was first declared by the Canadian Medical Association in 2018 and formally enacted by Parliament later that year. May 1 was chosen in tribute to Dr. Emily Stowe, born on May 1, 1831, and the first woman to practice medicine in Canada.
