Late last week, we learned of the sudden death of long-serving and well-respected Health Sciences Centre ER physician Dr. Ron Maier. He passed away on Thursday, September 11. Dr. Maier has been described by colleagues as an exceptional physician whose kindness, wisdom, and dedication to patients and colleagues left an indelible mark.”

Dr. Maier began his career in Emergency Medicine at Seven Oaks General Hospital in 1991, transitioning in 1996 to HSC. He also served as Medical Director of Keewatin Air and traveled to Haiti in 2011 as Medical Lead in the wake of a global health emergency.

Beyond the walls of the hospital, as Dr. Chau Pham, Medical Co-Director of Adult Emergency Medicine at HSC, wrote in a touching tribute, Dr. Maier stood as a pillar of friendship and support. In every setting, he brought people together, leaving behind not just memories, but a legacy of genuine connection.”

We extend our most sincere condolences to the emergency medicine team at HSC, along with Dr. Maier’s many other colleagues, friends, and family.
