Possible Mail Strike
WHAT’S HAPPENING: Canada Post employees may go on strike in a few weeks. An extension on existing deals between Canada Post and postal workers focused on wages, health and safety benefits, job security and pensions, but it expires on May 22.
WHAT WE’RE WATCHING: This potential strike would come less than six months after the postal service ground to a halt ahead of the holiday season. The government has formed a commission to review the dispute. Another strike would impact mail services nationwide.
Keep an eye on labour negotiations.
FOR MEMBERS: This falls during a time when many Manulife insurance products are up for renewal. While the majority of members have moved to emailed invoices and can view invoices posted to your member portal, this is a reminder to check there or register for member portal access. Once you are in, you can sign up for annual or monthly deduction options or make a payment through your bank or credit union.
FOR PATIENT CARE: During the last mail strike, Shared Health took the lead on providing guidance to minimize disruptions to patient care, including privacy-compliant ways to shift to email and phone. We will watch for this and provide updates as needed.
