New Specialties Added to eConsult
eConsult in Manitoba continues to grow, proving itself to be a reliable tool for physicians to submit non-urgent, patient-specific questions to specialists.
What’s New
New specialty services in cardiology, infectious diseases, and orthopedics have been added to the province’s electronic BASE eConsult system.
In the last 12 months, 9 new specialists have begun providing the following new services on eConsult BASE™:
- Cardiology — General and Lipid
- Infectious Diseases – Pediatric
- Orthopedics — Shoulder and Knee Surgery
- Orthopedics — Sports Injury
Why it Matters
Specialists are to respond within 7 days with guidance for referring physicians and eConsults most often remove the need to refer a patient to a specialist for an in-person consultation. This can reduce wait times and costs, while delivering high levels of provider and patient satisfaction.
By the Numbers
- 672 primary care providers are utilizing BASE eConsult which has 76 available specialty services in MB and 5 specialty services in Nunavut.
- Another 367 primary care providers are utilizing Store and Forward which has 19 available speciality services.
- In over 70% of BASE eConsult cases an in-person visit is not required to answer the eConsult case.
