What’s Happening: Premier Wab Kinew and Health Minister Uzoma Asagwara have announced new steps to make a long-delayed, much-needed addition to CancerCare Manitoba a reality.

Next Steps: At an event Monday, the leaders said a new CancerCare Manitoba building will be located at Health Sciences Centre’s Bannatyne health campus, across from CancerCare headquarters at 675 McDermot Ave. It aims to improve space, lighting, overall quality of care and the use of the newest techniques in cancer treatment and research.

Context: First announced in 2011, it is encouraging to see the project moving forward, albeit frustrating that it has taken so long. It is our hope the development process will move as swiftly as possible to deliver improved access to life-saving, state-of-the-art technology for physicians to deliver the best care possible for patients across the province.

📰 We talked to the Free Press about the need to move quickly to get specialists the facility they need to get patients the care they deserve.

What it Means for You: We know that a new building does not necessarily mean a new culture at CancerCare Manitoba. We are still following issues at CCMB closely including the advice in our report last fall. We’d love to hear your feedback about how things are going.
