Dr. Barry Lavallee

This week, we learned Dr. Barry Lavallee, Chief Executive Officer of Keewatinohk Inniniw Minoayawin Inc., died suddenly. We extend our condolences to his colleagues and loved ones. Dr. Lavallee will be remembered for his many contributions to medicine in Manitoba, particularly for his passion and dedication to improving Indigenous health care. 

MKO Grand Chief Garrison Settee reflected on Dr. Lavallee’s leadership during crisis situations, like the pandemic and recent wildfires. During the covid crisis Dr. Lavallee guided our Nations with a steady hand, without fear, ensuring citizens from northern First Nations had priority to vaccinations.”

Dr. Sherif Megalli Basali

We learned recently of the death of Dr. Sherif Megalli Basali, who passed away over the holiday season. Dr. Basali was a family physician who practiced most recently at Arrowwood Medical Centre in Winnipeg, and previously at the Wheat City Medical Clinic in Brandon. His former colleagues described Dr. Basali as valued, respected and a kind presence for both our team and the wider community.” Our sympathy and support are with his family, colleagues, and friends.
