We were on site this week to celebrate and support medical students on CaRMS Match Day, which marked an important milestone for medical learners in Manitoba and across Canada.

  • This year, 80% of Manitoba graduates matched to programs right here in Manitoba, strengthening the future local physician workforce.
  • 40% matched to family medicine, a key specialty for improving access to primary care.

🩺 The big picture: Even when the outcome is positive, Match Day can bring mixed emotions.

  • Learners may be celebrating a dream program while also preparing for major life changes.
  • Moving, leaving support networks, and adjusting family or partner plans can add stress during the transition to residency.

💡 Support available: Doctors Manitoba encourages anyone feeling overwhelmed to reach out to Doc360, a confidential support service for physicians and learners.

👀 What’s next: Aggregate results for the 2026 R1 match, including program fill rates, will be released by CaRMS in the coming weeks.

  • We’ll share Manitoba-specific highlights with members once the full reports are available.
  • The CaRMS process continues with the second iteration ofMatch Day scheduled for April 21
