September 30 is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

Throughout September, Truth and Reconciliation Week and related events offer opportunities to learn, reflect and take meaningful action.

Show your support, learn, participate: As we all work together to co-create a health system built around equity, accountability and reconciliation here are three key ways to learn and take action on September 30:

• Wear an orange shirt on September 30.
• Learn by completing or advancing your cultural safety and anti-racism training.
• Participate by attending a local Truth and Reconciliation event. We have put together a list of events in communities across Manitoba.

Wear Orange on September 30

• The College of Physicians & Surgeons of Manitoba (CPSM) requires all physicians, residents, clinical assistants and physician assistants to complete cultural safety and anti-Indigenous racism training by October 31, 2027. The requirement supports the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Call to Action #23. Pre-approved learning options are available. Doctors Manitoba members can access CPD funding to cover eligible course costs. • We Will Take Good Care of the People: For those who have completed the training modules, the We Will Take Good Care of the People workshop offers an opportunity to deepen learning through discussion, reflection and practical application. Upcoming dates: October 16, October 27. Register here.
• Read the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada’s 94 Calls to Action.
• The National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation’s Truth and Reconciliation Week 2026 includes a series of Lunch and Learns. These webinars are open to the public. You can also learn more about the new home ahead for the NCTR here.
• Health and Cultural Safety in Manitoba: Walking the Pathway Together Webinar is an introductory webinar connecting regional efforts with national standards and practices on Wednesday, September 23 from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Register here.

• Ongomiizwin is hosting a day of learning, reflection, connection and community on Tuesday, Sept. 29 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Bannatyne Campus. Details here.
• The University of Manitoba is hosting other Truth and Reconciliation events. Learn more.
• The Southern Chiefs’ Organization (SCO) is hosting the 6^th Annual Orange Shirt Day Healing Walk and Pow Wow on September 30, 2026, in Winnipeg on Treaty One Territory. The day begins with an opening ceremony at 9:30 am at the Oodena Circle in The Forks. Following the ceremony, take part in a healing walk to the Canada Life Centre. Grand entry for the pow wow will take place at 1 p.m.
• Orange Shirt Days @ the Manitoba Museum Sept. 30 to Oct. 2, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Three days of free admission to all areas. With all-day programming focused on the history of Indian Residential Schools and the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) Calls to Action. • Assiniboia Residential School Commemorative Monument & Gathering Place at 621 Academy Road is hosting an Orange Shirt Day event on Sept. 30 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. More details are available on the organization’s Facebook page.

• APTN, CBC/Radio-Canada and the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation (NCTR) are partnering to produce Remembering the Children: National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, the annual national commemorative gathering program, broadcast live from Parliament Hill in Ottawa beginning at 11 a.m. On September 30.
