RSV Products: Know the Difference

Manitoba Public Health advises reminds physicians there are two RSV immunization programs in Manitoba, which offer different products for different populations:

RSV antibody for pediatric patients: This relatively new program one dose of an antibody product to infants during their first RSV season (October 1 to March 31). Children with certain high-risk conditions entering their second season may also be eligible in consultation with the Manitoba High-Risk RSV Immunoprophylaxis Program.

  • Product: Nirsevimab (Beyfortus®) 50mg and 100mg pre-filled syringe (dosage used depends on weight of infant at time of immunization).
  • Tariff Code: 8694
  • Program Registration and initial allocation: Medical clinics that would like to administer nirsevimab to their infant clients and did not already receive an e‑mail on how to register, can e‑mail: vaccines@gov.mb.ca where you will be able to register and be provided with an initial allocation of supply.
  • Product Reordering: Once initial allocations have been used, product can be re-ordered using the Vaccine and Biologics Order Form.

RSV Vaccine for older adults: One lifetime dose is available for all adults aged 80 and older, as well as adults age 60 – 79 if they reside in a PCH or are in for respite care or have been paneled for PCH and are current in a transitional care or chronic care unit.

There is also a printer friendly one-page listing of all tariff codes for publicly funded immunizations

eChart Improvements

Shared Health is notifying physicians that eChart has two upcoming changes to enhance this commonly used tool.

Locked Documents: eChart will soon have a ‘Confidential Lock’ to protect sensitive patient documents. Documents with a Confidential Lock will only be visible and accessible to prescribing providers. The Confidential Lock will first be applied to two existing documents:

  • Emergency Department Information System (EDIS) Discharge Summaries
  • Virtual Integrated Clinical Service (VICS) Notes

⚠️ Important: This change may affect existing clinical workflows, as confidentially locked documents will only be visible in eChart to the prescribing provider(s). Other users will no longer see the documents. Clinical teams may wish to identify any workflows that depend on searching for these documents within eChart and evaluate whether any adjustments are needed. This change does not affect existing document distribution or faxing processes by the authoring provider.

New Documentation: eChart will soon include three new documents, which have been requested by physicians for some time. These documents will also have the “Confidential Lock” applied, and include:

  • Inpatient Discharge Summaries
  • Operative Reports
  • Procedure Notes

Shared Digital Services expects these new documents to be available starting December after testing is complete.
