Contact Info Change?
As we’ve noted, keeping your contact information up to date is critical to receiving timely updates during extreme weather.
It’s also critical when you relocate your practice. While most communication is now delivered electronically, Manitoba Health, in particular, may still send some correspondence by mail using the practice address on file.
Check your information: If you’re unsure whether Manitoba Health has your current practice location, it’s worth confirming.
You can update your address by:
- Email: practitionerregistry@gov.mb.ca
- Phone: (204) 788‑2567 or (204) 786‑7225
Rheumatoid Factor Testing Service Change
Rheumatoid Factor (RF) testing is temporarily unavailable on-site at the Health Sciences Centre Immunology Laboratory due to a manufacturing issue that may extend until August. Please expect delays after submitting samples. Testing will be referred to an out-of-province refernce laboratory.
Read the Shared Health memo to health care providers.
New Collaborative Care Standards in Effect
CPSM’s new set of Collaborative Care Standards is now in effect, and final documents are available for your guidance.
📝 Reminder: Under the new guidelines, consultants should generally respond within 14 days of receiving a referral according to the new standards, a change from the current 30 days.
❓ Are you already living the 14-day rule as a consulting physician? We would love to hear your feedback. Write to us at practiceadvice@doctorsmanitoba.ca
Review the new standard and our analysis of what’s changed.
Take Our 3‑Minute Leadership CPD Survey
All physicians are leaders, whether you’re leading patients or care teams.
In response to member needs and requests to provide support in this area, we have developed a 3‑minute survey to help us prioritize our leadership CPD offerings and the development of support tools for 2026 – 2027.
Closing soon! Have your say! The survey is open until Sunday, June 14 at 11:59 p.m.
Canada Moves to Restrict Social Media for Kids
On Wednesday, the federal government introduced the Safe Social Media Act, which would prevent children under 16 from having social media accounts, but offer exemptions to companies who can demonstrate sufficient safeguards for children.
The newly proposed legislation follows advocacy by the Manitoba government – and Doctors Manitoba – calling attention to the risks to the health and well-being of children and youth.
- Doctors Manitoba advocated for limits following strong physician feedback, with physicians citing social media use as one of the greatest risks to children’s health today.
We will be working with the Canadian Medical Association to monitor the bill throughout the legislative process.
Bill Criminalizes Forced Sterilization
The House of Commons has passed a law criminalizing forced or coerced sterilization.
The law states that sterilization without legal consent constitutes aggravated assault, which carries a maximum penalty of 14 years in prison.
The CMA supports its passage.
