FIT vs Colonoscopy Study
Manitoba physicians, especially in Winnipeg, are encouraged to refer potentially eligible patients to a research trial comparing the effectiveness of annual at-home fecal immunochemical test (FIT) to colonoscopy for finding colorectal cancer (CRC) in older adults who have a history of colorectal polyps.
The University of Manitoba is part of an international team of researchers across 14 sites in the United States and 3 here in Canada. All participants will be asked to complete an annual survey including information on health, medications, and opinions on surveillance testing.
Key Inclusion Criteria
- Age 65 – 82
- Speak English or Spanish
- Have a history of colorectal polyps
- Due for colonoscopy now or within the next 12 months
Key Exclusion Criteria
- Personal history of colorectal cancer or a genetic colorectal cancer syndrome
- Personal history of Crohn’s or Ulcerative Colitis
- Too sick for colonoscopy
- Most recent colonoscopy with advanced polyps a or multiple polyps (≥ 3 polyps)
