Manitoba’s doctors have launched a winter challenge to help Manitobans improve their health. The challenge is part of the Doctors Manitoba GettingHealthy.ca public awareness resource, with trustworthy tips and information from Manitoba’s physicians that helps to counter online medical misinformation.

Most people say they could do more to improve their health, and winter can be the toughest time to start,” said Dr. Randy Guzman, President of Doctors Manitoba. It all starts with one step, and this winter if you take one step towards improving your health you can win a great prize. We have plenty of winter-friendly ideas to get you started.”

The grand prize for the 2025 Getting Healthy Winter Challenge includes a Churchill Adventure Trip for two, including airfare, meals, accommodations and local adventures such as a beluga viewing trip and fat biking tour. Manitobans can enter anytime at GettingHealthy.ca until February 28, with opportunities to get bonus entries as well.

According to research commissioned by Doctors Manitoba, most Manitobans (87%) believe they aren’t doing enough or could be doing more when it comes to physical activity, eating well, improving their sleep, reducing their stress, and/or catching up on immunizations or medical screenings, according to research commissioned by Doctors Manitoba. Offering advice, encouragement, and incentives can help motivate people to take action towards improving their health, which is why Doctors Manitoba planned the Winter Challenge. Manitoba’s doctors created GettingHealthy.ca to offer practical advice for all these topics, to support Manitobans who believe they could be doing more to prevent disease and live a healthy life.

Over 18,000 Manitobans took part in last year’s Winter Challenge. In a follow-up survey, over 88% said they followed through with their pledge towards getting healthy, and 93% said they were planning to take another step towards getting healthy in the months that followed.

Winter is an incredible time to reset and focus on well-being – not by retreating into hibernation, but by bundling up and getting outside,” said FortWhyte Alive President and CEO Liz Wilson. FortWhyte Alive is proud to partner with Doctors Manitoba to help Manitobans embrace the season through outdoor recreation, whether it’s moving more, reducing stress, or simply enjoying the fresh air. Small changes can lead to big improvements, and FortWhyte is here to make it easy and fun for everyone to get outside this winter.”

GettingHealthy.ca is part of Doctors Manitoba’s plan to combat medical misinformation. A recent report from the CMA found that 78% of Canadians are highly or moderately susceptible to believing misinformation, and 37% say poor access to health care has led them to trying medical advice found online.

Medical misinformation is everywhere on the internet, which is why we are focusing on providing trustworthy, research-backed medical resources from local Manitoba doctors at GettingHealthy.ca,” added Dr. Guzman.
