CPSM Consultation: Entering a New Practice Setting
CPSM Consultation: Entering a New Practice Setting
As we noted in Vitals on April 30, The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba is inviting physician feedback on a new draft Standard of Practice on Entering a New Practice Setting.
What’s required: The draft standard says new physicians and receiving teams share responsibility for safe onboarding and integration. This includes a structured orientation, mentorship, cultural and psychological safety, and clear accountability.
🤝 Between the lines: Doctors Manitoba participated in the CPSM-led IMG Working Group that helped shape the initial draft standard.
Doctors Manitoba supports the general principles outlined in the draft standard.
⚙️ Yes, but: Successfully implementing the standard will require practical tools and supports to help physicians and medical leaders meet these expectations in real-world practice settings.
Doctors Manitoba already offers several supports for physicians who are new to practice in Manitoba, including:
- A New to Practice Coordinator
- Practice Advice and Compensation support, including billing guidance
- A Mentorship Program
- Peer Support services
- Additional wellness and professional supports
❓What’s Next: Let us know what additional tools, resources, and supports would help physicians and leaders on entering new practice settings by emailing us at practiceadvice@doctorsmanitoba.ca.
