Physicians’ fees for their Canadian Medical Protection Association (CMPA) coverage are once again much lower for 2024 than in previous years.

WHY IT MATTERS: For most physicians, this means your fees will be well below $1,000. Any physician who faces fees over the $1,000 threshold will continue to qualify for our CMPA rebate. This program was designed to help physicians offset some of the costs of the liability insurance required to practice in Manitoba.

Based on our analysis of CMPA rates, the rebate for last year will only be available for physicians who have paid CMPA for obstetrics, neurology, or surgical specialties (Otolaryngology, General Surgery, Gynecologic, Pediatric, Plastic, Thoracic, Urology, Neurosurgery and Vascular).

THE BOTTOM LINE: Doctors Manitoba negotiated improvements to increase the rebate beginning in 2023, resulting in 100% coverage of your fees over $1,000. This means most physicians’ total fees are under the threshold, meaning you don’t need to apply for a rebate as you don’t have any costs over $1,000.

WHAT’S NEXT: Those members who do qualify as their CMPA premium is over $1000 will receive an email from Doctors Manitoba notifying them and inviting them to claim the rebate.

If you have any questions, or if you believe you qualify for a rebate but did not receive application instructions, email us at benefits@doctorsmanitoba.ca.
