Physicians’ fees for 2026 Canadian Medical Protection Association (CMPA) coverage have been released, and in Manitoba, the average fee per member will increase by 20% to $1,704, or an average increase of about $284 per member. CMPA notes this will ensure alignment with projected medico-legal costs in the province. Our analysis shows that while there is a 20% increase this year, rates will still be about 50% lower than a few years ago. Rates were temporarily low for the last few years thanks to positive investment returns on reserve funds.

The Good News

Doctors Manitoba negotiated improvements to reduce the deductible for our CMPA Rebate beginning in 2023, resulting in 100% coverage of your fees over $1,000.

Any physician who faces fees over the $1,000 threshold will continue to qualify for our CMPA rebate. This program was designed to help physicians offset some of the costs of the liability insurance required to practice in Manitoba.

Most physicians are now eligible for CMPA rebate, which covers 100% of costs over $1,000. You can check your 2026 CMPA rate on their website here.

What’s Next

Those members who do qualify will receive an email from Doctors Manitoba notifying them and inviting them to claim the rebate.

If you have any questions, or if you believe you qualify for a rebate but did not receive application instructions, email us at benefits@doctorsmanitoba.ca.
