Have You Been Contacted by an Auditor? Call us!
Any physician billing fee-for-service is potentially subject to an audit by the Comptrollership and Compliance Unit (CCU), a division of the Manitoba government. Audits can be stressful and — if ignored — expensive.
What to Do
If you receive an audit letter, please call Doctors Manitoba for specific advice. We can help you prepare a response and, if needed, assist you with communication throughout the audit process.
Most audits by the CCU we have seen involve patient records from two to four years ago. However, there is no restriction on the time period of an audit and you may be asked to provide records from more than four years ago.
Help Us Help You
We become aware of audits only when our members let us know.
It is helpful for us to know where the CCU is focusing its efforts; for example, whether they are looking into family physicians or specialists, physicians practicing in urban or rural settings, hospitals or clinics, or addressing specific tariffs.
Next Steps
If you receive an audit letter, or have responded to an audit letter yourself and have now received further documents from the CCU, please reach out to us. You can email practiceadvice@doctorsmanitoba.ca or our General Counsel Andrew Swan at aswan@doctorsmanitoba.ca.
