Stopping practicing permanently

  • The sections below outline suggestions for communicating your plans to patients, colleagues and paramedical services and your staff. It is important to inform your staff first as they will likely be communicating most often with patients and other paramedical services.
  • The CPSM recommends reviewing Section 3 of the Practice Management Standard prior to making decisions about retirement or permanently closing a practice. The CPSM will meet with physicians to discuss their specific plans and offer assistance in answering questions.
  • If a physician left practice when an audit was scheduled, it would be held until they wanted to return to practice in Manitoba. The CPSM would review this on a case-by-case basis depending on the circumstances.
