Dr. Bethune is the immediate Past-President of the Professional Association of Residents and Interns of Manitoba (PARIM). She was an active member of the 2022 – 2023 Board of Directors for Doctors Manitoba and Residents Doctors of Canada. She enjoys working collaboratively on many Post-Graduate Medical Education, Department of Pediatrics, and Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada committees. As a PGY‑4 in Pediatrics, she looks forward to building a career caring for children with medical complexity. 

Dr. Braido’s expertise in Indigenous health continues to astonish her colleagues as she passionately advocates for healthcare equity by expanding public health initiatives and filling the gaps in both oncologic and addictions services in the North. As the Thompson faculty site liaison for UMs Family Medicine residency program, Dr. Braido excels at preparing medical learners and new physicians with the clinical skills and cultural competency needed to meet the unique needs in the Northern Manitoba.

During her time on both the MMSA council and Doctors Manitoba Boards, Dr. Bortoluzzi was recognized as a thoughtful and passionate advocate for medical learners. Whether delivering care packages for isolated medical students during the pandemic, or speaking up about broader challenges at the Board table, she demonstrates incredible promise as a clinician and leader.

Dr. Hafizi Barjin is an award-winning Geriatric Psychiatry Resident with over 45 peer-reviewed papers and book chapters. His research into the risk factors of dementia in geriatric patients will serve as a framework to facilitate future research on dementia prevention, discovery of new biomarkers, and developing new interventions.

Dr. Heard, a Maternal Fetal Medicine fellow, is an inspiration to his fellow medical learners and teachers for his knowledge and clinical acumen. His colleagues look forward to watching him continue his incredible career caring for people with uteruses and fetuses.

Dr. Ko is a passionate advocate for safe environments for underrepresented patients and learners, with specific interest in 2SLGTBQIA+ care, and is an enthusiastic member of the Doctors Manitoba mentorship program. Her colleagues are inspired by her advocacy, leadership, and ethical and professional conduct. 

Dr. Lee is an award-winning Obstetrics and Gynecology resident and dedicated physician mentor. She is a passionate advocate for diversity and reform within the medical community, developing residency curriculum to combat anti-Indigenous medical racism and establishing the first ever Equity, Diversion, Inclusion and Decolonization Committee while Chair of the PARIM Board of Directors. She actively works to further reproductive justice as well through her involvement in research, clinical practice, and policy development.

Dr. Oosterman works primarily as an Investigator Researcher at UM, with a focus in the area of urogynecology. Known for his infectious personality and perseverance, he exemplifies dedication in the face of adversity. Despite numerous surgeries impacting his residency he has faced his recovery with determination, maintaining his commitment to his clinical and surgical skills. His colleagues and patients value his calm demeanor and positive attitude. Dr. Oosterman’s dedication has culminated in him obtaining a urogynecology fellowship in Calgary, where he looks to continue to make a positive impact. 

Dr. Turner is a new resident, embodying everything we want from a medical learner and future practicing physician. A national-level athlete throughout medical school, she has been a COVID-19 immunizer and student mentor. Her motorsports interest has led to work with the Canadian Motorsports Response Team and International Council for Motorsports. She is a high academic achiever, acquiring many awards such as the UM Graduate Fellowship Award and Society of Academic Emergency Medicine Award.

Dr. Yu is an award-winning radiology resident, applauded by peers and mentors for his leadership skills, academic achievement, and commitment to colleagues’ well-being. He chairs the Resident and Fellow Section of the Canadian Association of Radiologists and was previously the resident representative to the Canadian Society of Abdominal Radiology, and the diagnostic grouping representative on the PARIM Board of Directors. He is kind and compassionate with a reputation for effective teaching and mentorship, as well as excellent bedside manner.
