Getting Started with an AI Scribe

One of the biggest hurdles is figuring out how and where to start:

🎤 Do you have the right hardware, including not only your computer but also a microphone and speakers?

🌐 Do you have adequate internet connection in patient exam rooms?

📋 Which AI scribe is best for you, and how does it integrate with your EMR?

You also need to consider how to work an AI scribe into your practice workflow and your patient interaction.

➡️ Watch this special webinar we hosted on June 4, 2025, about AI scribes and how to get started. You can also read a recap of it here.

Choosing a Vendor

Until recently, it has been challenging to understand which AI scribe products are a safe and reliable choice for your practice.

Thankfully, Canada Health Infoway has undertaken a national and rigorous procurement process to identify 9 AI scribe vendors – all based in Canada – for their ability to meet national standards and unique regional needs. The rigorous evaluation criteria included vendor capabilities, privacy, cybersecurity, EMR integration, and clinical usability. These vendors have also been reviewed by Digital Shared Services with Shared Health and cleared for use with certified EMRs in Manitoba.

More details will follow soon about these vendors, including information to help you choose. For now, we can say the vendors include:

  • Autochart.ai (Aya Health Technologies)
  • AutoScribe (Mutuo Health Solutions)
  • Empathia AI
  • CareWay (MEDFAR)
  • Mikata Health
  • Pippen AI
  • ScribeBerry
  • Tali AI
  • WELL Health Technologies

NOTE: There are several other AI scribe products available that likely meet Canadian and Manitoba privacy standards. However, as they are not included in the list above it’s important for physicians to carefully review how they meet these standards. AI scribes must comply with provincial and federal privacy laws. In this case, providers must ensure their scribe follows PHIA (rather than HIPPA, which is an American law).
