Billing Notes:
RSV immunizations are not currently insured by Manitoba Health and should be billed directly to the patient.
If the patient’s appointment is to receive an uninsured vaccine such as RSV, the patient should be billed directly for that service. Doctors Manitoba recommends your clinic develop an internal policy to set such fees. As always, physicians must take into account patients’ ability to pay.
If the patient’s sole reason for the appointment is to receive a vaccine, only claim the appropriate immunization tariff.
A visit fee may be claimed in addition only if:
- The patient receives the vaccine at the same time as they are being assessed for a condition or illness, or
- Prior to administering the vaccine, the physician discusses with the patient the suitability of receiving the shot, possible adverse reactions and obtains the patient’s informed consent
Where immunizations are provided in a community-based clinic, physicians may bill when the service is provided by a staff member employed and, paid by the physician and, competent to perform the service. See billing article Immunization Delegation for more details.
Providing vaccines in an extended hours period?
Receive a 20 – 30% Extended Hours Premium for providing services outside of regular clinic hours.
