Dr. Jagmit Arneja has practiced Obstetrics and Gynecology in Manitoba for 41 years. She is an Assistant professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, University of Manitoba. She has served as Site Director at the Victoria General Hospital for four years and Section head of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Section of Doctors Manitoba (then MMA) for six years. She was a partner at St. Boniface Clinic from 1977 – 2018.
Over the course of her career, she has delivered over 5000 babies at teaching and community hospitals and has improved the quality of life for several thousand patients with gynecological issues. She was the first female Gynecologist in Manitoba to perform minimally invasive hysterectomies at Victoria General Hospital, St. Boniface Hospital and Women’s Hospital. She has also derived much joy in being involved in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in Obstetrics and Gynecology, with a major focus on vaginal, laparoscopic and hysteroscopic surgery, colposcopy and laser surgery.
Dr. Arneja was also actively involved in administration, participating in various committees as well as acting as Chairperson of the Gynecology Standards Committee. She was a member of the WRHA Gynecology Endoscopy Committee, member of the Urogyne Committee, member of the Search Committee of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences, and member of the APO committee. Although primarily a clinician, she has been an active member of Society of Obstetricians and Gynecologists of Canada’s Clinical Practice Guideline Committee, contributing to the committee’s evidenced based published guidelines.
Dr. Arneja was born in India and graduated in 1968 from MGM Medical College, Indore, India. She immigrated to Winnipeg in 1971 and completed her Internship, Residency and obtained fellowship from the RCPSC in Obstetrics and Gynecology in 1976.
