Procedures — Office Visits
On occasion, a service that is normally insured by Manitoba Health is provided on an uninsured basis, e.g., a surgical procedure performed on a US citizen or a medical examination conducted for travel purposes, etc.
In determining your fee for these services, Doctors Manitoba recommends that you charge between two and three times the rate payable in the Physician’s Manual.
This recommendation is based upon the premise that the rates currently paid for insured medical services under the provincial health plan are not reflective of what the rates would be in an “open market”. Therefore, to determine a rate for an uninsured medical service that reflects current market conditions, it is recommended that physicians make this upward adjustment to the rate payable if the service were provided on an insured basis.
