Uninsured Patients and Services
Uninsured Services are services provided by physicians that are not insured by Manitoba Health, such as medical reports requested by insurance companies, medico-legal reports, transfer and access of medical records, sick notes, and driver’s medicals. Patients who are not insured, such as those who do not reside in Canada, may also be required to pay a fee for service.
We have practical guidance on:
- Rates for uninsured services
- Developing an appropriate hourly rate
- How to identify services that should be billed directly to patients or third parties
- How to communicate with patients and third parties on uninsured services
- How to organize your office procedures to effectively bill and collect for these services

Medical Services Associated with Travel
The Excluded Services Regulation of the Health Services Insurance Act lists various medical services, which are not insured under the provincial health plan. Immunizations and examinations for the purpose of travel, employment and emigration are excluded services.
