WRHA is opening new Extended Hours Primary Care Clinics this fall and winter to offer episodic primary care evenings and weekends. Patients will be able to book same-day or walk-in appointments. Positions are available for physicians looking to add a few shifts to their existing practice in a new, unique environment.

The clinics will be located at Grace, Concordia, Seven Oaks, St. Boniface, and Victoria Hospitals, open 4pm to midnight on weekdays, and 12pm to midnight on weekends. Clinics will include nursing and primary care assistant coverage as well as centralized support for billing and medical leadership. The clinics offer flexible remuneration models and flexible scheduling options. See this overview of the clinic model and the opportunity for physicians.

Remuneration

Doctors Manitoba has negotiated a flexible remuneration structure, with fee-for-service and hourly options available to participating physicians.

The remuneration options include:

  1. Blended Fee-for-Service, with two paid hours of administrative time at alternate funded rates (see below).
  2. Hourly, paid at alternate funded rates (see below)

Both remuneration options are available to physicians working in a designated Home Clinic. Physicians not connected to a Home Clinic can access the hourly option.

Premiums. The extended hours premiums apply to all remuneration during the prescribed hours. This includes 20% for weeknights and weekend days and 30% for Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings.

Overhead:12.5% overhead fee is deducted from all remuneration. If you work at a Home Clinic offering longitudinal family medicine, the overhead goes to your Home Clinic. If you are not connected to a Home Clinic, the overhead is retained by the WRHA extended hours clinics.

Hourly rates, as per the Winnipeg Independent Contractor Agreement (before overhead deduction):

  • Hourly: $196.86
  • 8‑hour weekday (with premiums): $1850.48
  • 12-hour weekend (with premiums): $2,972.59
