Doctors Manitoba is pleased to offer New to Manitoba Medical Practice – A CMPA Presentation, designed to support physicians as they transition into practice in Manitoba.
This session will focus on promoting patient safety and helping early-career physicians navigate medicolegal risk with greater confidence. Through practical insights and real-world context, presenters Dr. Lisa Thurgur MSc, FRCPC, MD and Dr. Heather Murray MD, MSc, FRCP will explore common challenges faced in the first years of practice and strategies to manage them effectively.
Who is this session for?
Residents nearing the end of training and physicians within their first five years of practice in Manitoba who want to better understand the roles of CMPA, CPSM, and Doctors Manitoba, anticipate and manage common medicolegal challenges, and feel more prepared to respond to adverse events and complaints.

Session Objectives
By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
1) Understand the role of CMPA, CPSM and Doctors Manitoba in supporting medical practice in Manitoba
2) Identify some common medicolegal challenges in the first few years of practice and some strategies to mitigate these challenges
3) Analyze an approach to respond to adverse events and complaints, and identify supports during this process
