Time Commitment: 0.7 EFT (28 hours per week)

Description:

The Department of Family Medicine training program at the University of Manitoba is one of the most complex in the Max Rady College of Medicine, with the largest number of residents and is taught and administered at numerous distributed training sites throughout Manitoba. The Postgraduate Program consists of several Family Medicine streams, including Urban, Rural, Bilingual, Northern Remote, Integrated Care of the Elderly, and the nine (9) added competency Family Medicine Enhanced Skills Programs (ESP) in palliative care, emergency medicine, anesthesia, care of the elderly, sports medicine, cancer care, clinician scholar and women’s health, and addiction medicine. Departmental centralized offices are located at the University’s Bannatyne Campus, although teaching/​precepting occurs at sites located across the province. Nearly 100 teaching sites are utilized throughout the province to support resident clinical rotations and medical student core rotation/​elective placements. 

The Program Director, Postgraduate Education is responsible for oversight and further development of excellence in teaching, content, and structure of the Family Medicine Residency Training Program, consistent with the Department’s Mission and Aims Statement. This responsibility will also be influenced by the educational aims, goals, and accreditation standards of the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC) and the Max Rady College of Medicine, University of Manitoba.

The incumbent will also provide oversight and guidance in the creation of program objectives, as well as the overview of program and faculty evaluation for all DFM postgraduate programs. Additionally, they will be responsible for the accreditation process with the College of Family Physicians of Canada. The Program Director will oversee and coordinate the section process for applicants applying to the postgraduate Family Medicine programs. The Program Director will also chair and attend various committees as a member.

Qualifications:

  • Certificate from the College of Family Physicians (CCFP) and current membership in the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC).
  • Holds a full license from the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba
  • Faculty appointment in the Department of Family Medicine; encouraged to apply for promotion in professorial track
  • Previous clinical teaching experience in Rady Faculty of Health Sciences
  • Working knowledge of primary care and family physician network throughout Manitoba
  • Interpersonal skills appropriate to dealing with individuals from a variety of backgrounds
