WCB General Medical Advisor — two positions

Application deadline: Tuesday April 8, 2025 

The healthcare department of the WCB requires the services of up to two general medical consultants who can devote 16 – 20 contracted hours per week to the role. 

Job Summary

• consult on medical matters and provide written medical opinions to assist with adjudicator and case management decision making on claims for workplace injuries and illnesses
• communicate verbally and in writing with treating healthcare practitioners about relevant medical matters for workplace injury and illness claims
• perform physical examinations of injured workers when required to assist in the formulation of medical opinions
• as needed participate in the delivery and development of ongoing medical education and training delivered to internal claims staff or the external healthcare community, and other special projects related to program development
• attend and participate in department meetings

We are looking for someone with: 

• at least five years of experience as a physician
• excellent verbal and written communication skills
• willingness to communicate about medical matters with treating healthcare practitioners in the community
• licensed and in good standing with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba
• proficient in electronic communication tools and general computer use
• fellowship or experience in sports medicine considered an asset
• completion of the foundations course in occupational medicine or other occupational medicine training considered an asset
