Daily Hours Worked: Various hour shifts (30 to 40 hours per week) 

Position Type: Fee for service 

Wage Rate: Compensation is fee-for-service as per the Doctors Manitoba and Manitoba Health a Manitoba Health, Seniors and Active Living negotiated rates. Average Income ranges from $276,606.00 and $618,399.00 CDN annually.

Position Summary

The Department of Surgery in Prairie Mountain Health is seeking two full-time Orthopedic Surgeons with training and expertise in hip and knee arthroplasty to be located in Brandon, Manitoba. Additional experience, such as upper extremities, hand and wrist, sports or peds is desirable. Fellowships are preferred, however, with required documentation, other training and experience will be considered. Qualified PRA candidates are encouraged to apply, provided they meet eligibility requirements.

The successful applicant must be able to work within an interdisciplinary team and function well in a high-volume environment with a commitment to provide high quality patient care in both office-based practice and hospital practice. The member of the department of Orthopedic Surgery and will participate in the Trauma on-call rotation at the Brandon Regional Health Centre which is typically 1/5.

Brandon Regional Health Centre is a satellite campus for the University of Manitoba and the Rady Faculty of Medicine, and offers the opportunity to contribute to the teaching/​mentoring of medical learners. We are a fully accredited multi-specialty facility with 300+ bed capacity and are currently undergoing a $110 million-dollar expansion of our inpatient care facilities, expected to be completed by 2026

As the second largest city in Manitoba, with a population of 55,000 and growing, Brandon is the main hub and referral site for southwestern Manitoba, with a catchment area of approximately 200,000. Diagnostic services include full service radiology, ultrasound, CT, MRI and nuclear medicine. Brandon Regional Health Centre has a wide range of specialist services available, including general surgery, cardiology, urology, pediatrics, and intensivists. There is also an 11-bed NICU is in the process of expanding. We also provide 24/7 hospitalist services as well as 24/7 internal medicine services and 24/7 Obstetrical-Gynecology Services. We have a full-service Emergency Department with a full complement of ER physicians 24/7.

Brandon University has a significant reputation in music, general arts and science programs. Assiniboine Community College provides a wide range of education options (which includes the Institute of Culinary Arts), as well as Robertson College and the Manitoba Emergency Services College.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose diseases and physiological disorders
  • Prescribe post-operation medication and treatment
  • Supervise surgical procedures
  • Treat diseases, injuries and deformities
  • Act as consultants to other physicians
  • Order laboratory tests, X‑rays and other diagnostic procedures
  • Supervision: 1 to 2 people 

Credentials

  • The successful candidate must hold a Doctor of Medicine degree with specialization in Orthopedics
  • Completed postgraduate fellowship qualifications prior to appointment
  • Current or eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba
  • Must be a member of CMPA or provide proof of equivalent malpractice insurance
  • The successful candidate must be eligible for certification with the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada and registration with the College of Physicians & Surgeons of Manitoba

Experience and specialization 

  • Specialization in surgery: Hip and Knee Arthroplasty
