How healthy is Canada’s information environment? Action in the face of misinformation
WHEN: January 21, 11:30 a.m. ‑1:30 p.m.
WHERE: Canadian Club, Toronto. Watch the livestream here.
WHAT: Canada has experienced stunning change over the past several years in the way Canadians receive information. In a short time, we’ve moved from a few single points of truth to a wildly fragmented ecosystem.
WHY IT MATTERS: The stakes are particularly high in the health sector, where misinformation can have life-or-death consequences. To shed light on this critical issue, the Canadian Medical Association (CMA) has commissioned Abacus Data to explore the current state of Canada’s information environment.
Join for the release of the annual CMA Health & Media Tracking Survey, presented by Abacus Data CEO David Coletto followed by an expert panel discussion as we discuss the challenges of misinformation and, more importantly, ideas on how to tackle it in Canada.
This expert panel features:
Dr. Joss Reimer — President, Canadian Medical Association
Dr. Theresa Tam — Canada’s Chief Public Health Officer
Craig Silverman — ProPublica National Reporter & Misinformation expert
Angela Pacienza — Executive Editor, The Globe and Mail
Moderated by Elamin Abdelmahmoud, Host of CBC Radio’s COMMOTION

WHEN: Join beginning February 7 for this 8‑week interactive program on childhood ADHD. This course is open to primary care providers who are currently treating pediatric clients/patients with ADHD and are seeking to collaborate with others in their treatment planning. Participants may register for all 8 weeks, or on a session-by-session basis.
Dr. Marcia Anderson Talk: Start Climbing
Dr. Marcia Anderson draws inspiration from the words of the late Honourable Murray Sinclair for an upcoming talk at the Manitoba Harm Reduction Conference.“We have described for you a mountain, we have shown you the path to the top. We call upon you to do the climbing.”
WHEN: February 12 at 9 a.m.
Dr. Anderson will explore the essential work of disrupting anti-Indigenous racism, advancing decolonization, and fostering reconciliation in public health. She will address the gap between understanding systemic racism and taking tangible anti-racist actions.
