Measles Update

Public health officials with Manitoba Health, Seniors and Long-Term Care are notifying the public of five confirmed cases of measles in southern Manitoba, all connected to an outbreak in Ontario. These cases involve five individuals living within the same household, all of whom were contacts of lab-confirmed cases while recently traveling in Ontario. The individuals have been asked to isolate at home.

As of Jan. 29, 81 cases (54 confirmed and 27 probable) of measles have been reported in Ontario in 2024 and 2025

WRHA Youth Mental Health and Addictions Recovery Service

A new WRHA Youth Mental Health and Addictions Recovery Service offers voluntary youth directed, short-term counselling (812 sessions) for youth aged 12 – 18, with opportunities for youth and their caregivers to attend sessions together. The goal is to provide accessible, low-barrier support by offering counselling both in-office, virtually, and in the communities where youth live.

THE OFFERING:

  • Services are voluntary and are offered as a brief treatment (up to 12 sessions) to youth aged 12 – 18 years and caregivers.

  • Services can involve individual in-person sessions, virtual sessions, caregiver sessions, or a combination of these formats. 

  • Upon completion of treatment, youth will be redirected back to primary care provider and other supports as needed.

OF NOTE: This service is not for those experiencing acute crisis, those needing specialized/​intensive mental health or addiction interventions, or those in current need of psychological/​psychiatric assessment. Consultation with our Clinical Lead for appropriateness for referral or additional supports can be facilitated as needed.

Nominations Open for the Dr. Setareh Ziai Inspiring Women Physician Award 

Do you know a woman in medicine who should be recognized for her inspiring efforts to support her community, workplace, colleagues, family, or friends? Someone who quietly makes a significant impact but may not receive the acknowledgment she deserves? Someone who makes meaningful actions behind the scenes, a quiet force whose presence often goes unrecognized. Nominate a fellow Canadian woman physician for the CWIM Dr. Setareh Ziai Inspiring Woman Physician Award and honour her contribution!

Created as the result of a donation from Hélène Letourneau Donnelly, the CWIM Dr. Setareh Ziai Inspiring Woman Physician Award is intended to honour the work of dedicated, skilled, trailblazing women physicians in Canada.

AWARD DETAILS: Up to 4 recipients will be honoured in 2025.

Each award consists of:

  • $1,000 for the recipient.

  • Complimentary registration for the recipient to CWIM’s 2026 Annual Conference (value approx. $800; workshops and social activities not included; for details, access the conference website: www​.con​fer​ence​.cwim​gath​er​.com).

  • Complimentary CWIM partnership for the recipient and her nominator for one year (value: $150 + tax each).

ELIGIBILITY: The nominee must identify as a woman physician based in Canada. Resident physicians are eligible. The nominator must be a CWIM partner in the current year. (To join CWIM as a partner visit www​.cwimorg​.com). Only nominations of individual physicians by individual CWIM partners will be considered. Nominations by groups and/​or of groups of physicians will be returned.

NOMINATION: The nominator should submit a letter (up to 500 words) describing this amazing individual, how she inspires you or others, and why she should be recognized. A high-quality nomination letter with specific examples will make it easier to assess the award criteria.

SELECTION: All applications will be reviewed by the CWIM Awards Committee according to the creativity, inspiration and impact demonstrated in the application. The Committee will put forward their suggested winners to the CWIM Board for final decision. Consideration will be given to diversity of career stage, specialty and geography of award recipients.
