Endoscopy Form Reminder
The following message is from Shared Health.
The Provincial Endoscopy Referral Form was introduced in April of 2022 to support gastrointestinal healthcare in Manitoba. This form standardizes requests for endoscopy, ensuring equitable service delivery, improved prioritization and scheduling of endoscopic procedures in Manitoba.
Physicians are asked to complete the provincially standardized referral form for the correct region to request any outpatient gastrointestinal endoscopy. This form is to be sent according to current practice, whether that is to a specific endoscopy provider, clinic, or central intake site.
NEW: Effective immediately, this form is required by the site for slating of endoscopic procedures.

Share Your Experience with Authorship
The PHANTOM Survey seeks to explore the experiences regarding authorship across different career stages. The survey is by Dr. Laura Le, a Cardiology Resident at the University of Manitoba. Survey responses are confidential.
SURVEY PURPOSE: Promote transparency and fairness in authorship attribution for the benefit of the broader academic community.
WHY IT MATTERS: Authorship plays a pivotal role in shaping professional advancement, influencing career opportunities, and scholarly recognition among medical professionals. However, the distribution of authorship credits is not always equitable, with instances where individuals who have not contributed substantially are included as co-authors.
BOTTOM LINE: By capturing a comprehensive snapshot of authorship experiences, the study will highlight if there is perceived inappropriate authorship occurring at various levels of medical training across Canada. Results will facilitate informed discussions and potential reforms in academic publishing practices.

Physician Student Debt Forgiveness
The Federal Government recently amended its regulations to expand the eligibility of physicians for student debt forgiveness. In 2023, the Federal Government announced debt forgiveness of up to $60,000 for physicians with a Canada Student Loan who choose to practice in underserved communities.
WHAT’S NEW: The new regulation will clarify this to include physicians practicing in any community with a population of less than 30,000 (in other words, anywhere in Manitoba other than Brandon and Winnipeg).
You can find more information about Canada Student Loan forgiveness here.
