The interview period for the first iteration of the 2025 R‑1 Main Residency Match begins on January 18, and in the lead-up, medical learners have been getting ready with research, references, application deadlines and interview prep.
After the national interview and ranking periods, Match Day arrives on March 4, 2025.
It’s a lot to manage on top of the demands of medical school, life and the preparations for entry into postgraduate medical training. It can feel overwhelming to feel so much is riding on the decisions up to and navigating the unknown of matching.
During this time, your empathy and understanding are appreciated. Check in with medical learners and ask them how they’re doing, show interest in their goals and share your own experience – including the good, the bad, and how you felt when you were going through it too. Listen without judgment and let them know you want to understand what they’re going through now.
Keep an eye out for distress and burnout, and encourage learners to check out resources available to them through student services at Bannatyne Campus and Doctors Manitoba Docs360. We are here to help, every step of the way.
