Help Assess Med School Applicants
315 words / 1.5 min read / For all members
The Max Rady College of Medicine is looking for help in reviewing applications for next year’s incoming class (entering August 2025). Volunteers are needed for reviewing Multiple Mini Interviews (MMI), a series of scenarios that evaluate personal attributes that are deemed essential for competent and caring physicians.
HOW IT WORKS: Applicants record their answers to the questions on an online application, and volunteer raters review and score them based on a predetermined scoring rubric. Three raters will view and score each applicant at each two-question station, which will then be used to calculate a composite score. Over 400 applicants are expected to participate.
WHAT’S NEEDED: Raters have 3 weeks starting on or around February 18 to complete the responses they have been assigned within an online platform.
MMI raters will review a set number of applicants for their assigned station, a commitment of approximately 12 to 15 hours.
The rating can be completed in multiple sittings, at any time of the day or night based on your availability. Access to a computer or mobile device with wifi or cellular data.
MANDATORY TRAINING: There will be mandatory implicit bias and privacy training modules to complete as well as small group rater training sessions customized to the station raters are assigned to. Training will take place online in January and February 2025.
HOW TO PARTICIPATE: Fill out the registration form and email to UGME.admissions@umanitoba.ca
WHO CAN’T TAKE PART: You may not volunteer if an immediate family member has applied for medical school and will be interviewed this academic year. Family members include spouse, common-law partner, child, grandchild, sibling, parent, in-law, aunt, uncle, nephew, niece, or cousin. You also may not participate if you have been involved with “for profit” MCAT or MMI preparation courses.
DEADLINE: Submit by EOD Friday, Dec. 20, 2024.
