Extended Visit Tariff offers an option for more complicated visits, something between an intermediate and complete exam. This is a provisional tariff for 18 months and will be evaluated in 2025

Extended visits must involve two or more complaints from the patient and last at least 20 minutes. These complaints must be distinct from one another and should be well documented, including history, advice to the patient, investigations, and plans for future treatment.

What defines a system”:
Systems can be interconnected, and it can be difficult to determine what is a distinct system, and what is a symptom of the initial system issue. Our advice is that if each issue requires its own separate assessment or examination, you document well, and feel as though you can make an argument that the 2 system issues are distinct, you should feel comfortable billing this tariff.

The Extended Visit Tariff is like other visit tariffs for family physicians: premiums and additional exams can be added on if appropriate. Read more about the simplified visit schedule here.

This tariff is provisional up to and including March 31, 2025. During this period, Doctors Manitoba and Manitoba Health will review the tariff and consider steps to make it a permanent option for physicians and your patients.
