Doctors Manitoba and Manitoba Health have agreed to compensate physicians throughout the province who provide off-site on-call coverage to licensed Personal Care Homes (PCHs). this agreement covers after-hours periods (from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. the following day on weekdays and from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. the next morning weekend days and on statutory holidays).

Manitoba Health funds each Regional Health Authority (RHA) to pay each licensed PCH within the RHA an annual stipend of $204.00 per licensed bed or $20,400.00 per PCH facility, or whichever stipend is greater (e.g. a 150-bed unit would have $30,600 annually for on call). Each licensed PCH will divide the annual stipend amount amongst the PCH On-Call Physicians every quarter. They have provided on-call coverage to the PCH throughout the prior quarter per the amount of on-call coverage that each On-Call Physician has provided.

When a physician is prepared to cover more than one PCH facility each PCH call stipend shall be payable to the physician.

PCH On-Call Physicians will also be eligible to submit fee-for-service claims for insured medical services provided to PCH residents during the period of on-call coverage and to direct bill patients and third parties for uninsured services offered during the on-call coverage period.

Contained within the PCH On-Call Agreement, there is a detailed description of PCH On-Call Physicians’ duties. You may obtain a copy of the agreement by contacting Doctors Manitoba.
