This morning, the provincial government expanded the eligibility criteria for the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine to include anyone age 40 and over. The new criteria eliminates any formal prioritization for those with high risk medical conditions. This mirrors similar changes in other provinces. We received the official notification this morning. We understand Manitoba’s new criteria mirrors similar changes in other provinces.

Physicians are encouraged to prioritize doses to those considered higher risk for severe illness or death from COVID-19. But this must be balanced with using your doses quickly, to expand vaccine protection to more individuals as the third wave arrives in Manitoba.

We have updated ManitobaVaccine.ca with the new eligibility criteria. The Vaccine Finder page has also been updated. As of this morning, only 27 of the 180 or so medical clinics signed up to offer the vaccine have appointments available.

Doctors Manitoba is aggressively advocating for medical clinics to receive more vaccine supplies, to reach more Manitobans.
You can read the provincial news release on the change to AstraZeneca eligibility here. Eligibility at the provincial vaccine super sites and pop up clinics also changed today, now open to those age 54 and over, or First Nations individuals age 34 and over.
