Description 

Doctors Manitoba is looking for a Medical Director – Physician Health Program, to lead clinical programs to support physicians and medical learners throughout Manitoba. 

This role will provide strategic direction and oversight for all clinical service delivery of the Doctors Manitoba Physician Health Program. Responsibilities include providing group and individual peer support services; clinical oversight and support to the clinical team; program and quality improvement and partnership building with other organizations involved in supporting physician and medical learner health and wellness. 

Applicants should have knowledge of mental health and addictions issues affecting physicians and medical learners, and experience working with an interdisciplinary team. A significant portion of this role will be providing recovery-focussed group and individual peer support.

Key duties include:

  • Adhere to all requirements outlined by CPSM for Medical Directors in a non-institutional setting, including complying with the Code of Ethics.
  • Ensure Doctors Manitoba physician health programming is aligned with the strategic plan and responsive to all Doctors Manitoba members. 
  • Provide clinical direction, case management, support, and quality improvement direction to Doctors Manitoba physician health program clinicians. 
  • Facilitate recovery- and mental-health-focused peer support groups.
  • Lead Doctors Manitoba clinical support for a critical incident involving physician or medical learner health.
  • Work with the Doctors Manitoba-funded external physician health programs to ensure that clinical, educational, and supportive programming is effective and responsive to members’ health and wellness needs.
  • Collaborate with CPSM as needed to support physicians and medical learners who may be involved with the CPSM physician health program. This could include but is not limited to preparing undertaking and program compliance reports. 
  • Develop and foster relationships with physicians, internal/​external partners, medical communities, educational institutions, and regulatory bodies to engage partners in understanding, and to act as an advocate in addressing system level issues affecting physician and medical learner health and wellness.
  • Maintain awareness of health and medical trends and issues, identify opportunities to promote Doctors Manitoba and PHP support services, and participate in initiatives, conferences, and education sessions.
  • Deliver educational sessions related to physician and medical learner health and wellness. 
  • Participate in research and evaluation activities as required. 

Qualifications

Education

  • Medical Doctor licensed to practice medicine independently in Manitoba. Certification or experience in Psychiatry, Mental Health, Addictions Medicine, or Occupational Health is beneficial.
  • Additional physician leadership and physician led peer support certification or training are assets. 
  • Completion of anti-Indigenous racism, other forms of racism, and anti-oppression education. 

Experience

  • Minimum 10 years practicing medicine is preferred. 
  • Minimum 2 years developing and/​or providing peer support or other physician health programming. 
  • Lived experience and recovery in mental health or addictions is considered an asset. 

Work Environment

In-office daytime, evening, and some weekend hours mostly in Winnipeg, some provincial and national travel based on need. 

Compensation

Independent Contractor rates as articulated in the Physician Services Agreement.
