Dr. Ahmad Khalil is a full-scope family physician practicing in the Southern Health district in the rural community of Ste. Anne, where he provides clinical care, works as a hospitalist, and serves in the emergency department. Born in Beirut, Lebanon, he completed his medical training in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, followed by four years of residency in General Surgery. After moving to Montréal in the 1990s, he earned both an MSc and PhD at the Montréal Heart Institute in the Pathology Department at the University of Montréal, and later completed postdoctoral training in immunology at the Montréal Clinical Research Institute, focusing on HIV vaccine research.
Dr. Khalil relocated to Winnipeg to serve as Medical Director of Medicure, a biotechnology company developing treatments for ischemic heart disease. He later completed postgraduate studies at Harvard in thrombotic disease and thrombosis management, and gained clinical experience in the Cardiac Sciences Program at St. Boniface Hospital before entering the IMGMLP pathway and earning full medical licensure in Manitoba. As a prospective board member, he is committed to supporting physicians at all stages of their careers, advocating for fair compensation, strengthening rural practice supports, and promoting physician wellness.
