Passports – Acting as a Guarantor
Physicians used to receive many patient requests to “guarantee” passport applications. These days, most Canadians who renew their passports need only provide contact information for two references.
Most Canadians applying for a first passport can have almost any adult Canadian who holds a valid passport ”guarantee” their passport application.
These changes make it easier for patients to apply for passports and reduces the requests to physicians to serve as a guarantor.

If you choose to guarantee a patient’s passport application, you cannot charge any fee whatsoever.
