We are excited to announce that Little People of Manitoba (LPM) will be hosting a medical conference on Dwarfism for the first time ever locally in Winnipeg. We have arranged presentations by two medical experts from the Little People of America Medical Advisory Board. These doctors are providing their expertise at no cost. 

The Medical Advisory Board (MAB) at Little People of America is a group of medical professionals who specialize in the care of individuals with dwarfism. The board provides guidance and support to individuals with dwarfism and their families, as well as to medical professionals who care for them. The board also works to promote research, education, and advocacy related to dwarfism. 

Dr. Julie Hoover-Fong, the chair of the MAB, will be sharing her expertise on dwarfism and building relationships with local doctors who are interested in this field. Dr. Hoover-Fong is a renowned physician and researcher who specializes in medical genetics and the care of individuals with skeletal dysplasia, including dwarfism. She is the director of the Greenberg Center for Skeletal Dysplasias at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and has published numerous articles and book chapters on the subject. 

Dr. Sarah Nikkel is from the University of British Columbia, Department of Medical Genetics, and is also an expert in Dwarfism. 

NOTE: there are two seminars on October 5, 2023. One seminar will be open to all medical professionals and will cover a range of topics related to dwarfism. The other is specifically for Pediatricians and family doctors, focusing on the unique medical needs of children with dwarfism. 

Session 1: 9:00 – 11:00 am (all topics). Session 2: 1:00 – 3:00 pm (Pediatrics).

The event will take place at Canad Inns – Club Regent 1415 Regent Ave. West, Winnipeg, MB. Lunch and snacks will be provided.
