Specialist On-Call

Specialists who provide on-call services for RHAs may be compensated in accordance with the On-Call Specialist/Doc of the Day Agreement .

The basic per diem for 24 hours of off-site on-call by a “Specialist” in Winnipeg is currently $476.75.  Physicians who provide these services in Brandon, Rural and Northern areas will receive these fees plus the appropriate Fee Differentials.

Physicians are reminded that the On-Call Specialist/Doc of the Day Agreement sets out the terms and conditions for this service.  In particular, on-call is a service where a specialist (or otherwise qualified medical practitioner) has agreed to remain on stand-by in order to respond to urgent or emergent telephone calls from hospital staff, Residents and other physicians requesting advice about a patient and/or to go to the hospital to examine and treat a patient.   The per diem applies to on-call coverage requirements as they are determined to be by the RHA.

Frequency Premium

In addition to the basic rates specialists who provide on-call coverage in excess of 1 in 5 are eligible for a frequency premium of between 5%-15%.  A premium will apply to the 75th day of call and each day of on call thereafter provided during the same fiscal year (April 1 through to March 31 of the following calendar year).  Frequency premiums are set out in the table below.  No premium is payable for the first seventy-four (74) days of service.
