Effective December 1, 2020, the responsibility for physician remuneration audits was transferred from Manitoba Health to the Department of Finance. Any notifications respecting audits will now come from the Comptrollership and Compliance Unit within the Office of the Provincial Comptroller.
Although we have been advised there will be no change in the way audits are conducted, we will work with Department of Finance officials in an effort to clarify the audit process.
If the Comptrollership and Compliance Unit completes an audit and determines that an amount is repayable to Manitoba Health by a physician, there is an appeal process chaired by an independent person agreed upon by Doctors Manitoba and Manitoba Health, usually a lawyer. However, there is a 90-day time limit to file an appeal.
Doctors Manitoba provides advice and representation to physicians who are being audited.
