1.0 EFT — 2‑Year Term Position (possibility of extension)
Doctors Manitoba is looking for an experienced Nurse Therapist to provide therapeutic counselling and support for physicians and medical learners in Manitoba. This position will also lead group counselling, facilitate educational sessions, and work with other service providers as required.
To be an excellent Nurse Therapist you must be an active practicing member of the College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba (CRNM) and/or the College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Manitoba (CRPNM). You must be compassionate, organized and detail-oriented, and comfortable working with diverse teams. Nurse Therapist Responsibilities
- Respond to the intake phone line calls and messages.
- Triage calls as appropriate including referrals to other physician and medical learner supports and other services as required.
- Crisis intervention as needed.
- Brief and longer-term therapeutic counselling for individuals on issues related to mental health and addictions.
- Couples counselling.
- Group-based counselling including co-addiction/co-dependency support, and psychoeducational sessions.
- Preparing compliance reports as required for CPSM or employers.
Requirements
- Graduate from an approved School of Nursing or Psychiatric Nursing required.
- Master’s Degree in Nursing, Psychiatric Nursing or Family Therapy is preferred.
- Must be an active practicing member of the College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba (CRNM) and/or the College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Manitoba (CRPNM).
- Scope of practice as documented in the Regulated Health Professions Act (RHPA).
- Demonstrated effective interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to problem-solve effectively in complex situations.
- Independent decision making and assessment of patients and families/significant others where direct access to supervision is not immediately available.
- Previous experience counselling physicians, medical learners, or other health care professionals is an asset.
- Personal experience with social, economic, political, and historical realities impacting BIPOC Manitobans, familiarity with Indigenous Cultural Safety and anti-racism, and a thorough understanding of accompanying reports (ex: TRC, United Nations Declarations for the Rights of Indigenous Peoples) is considered an asset.
Work Environment
In-office daytime, evening, and some weekend hours in Winnipeg.
